About Traditional-Artists

 We're a club aimed at bringing together traditional artists and artisans on deviantART. We are not elitist - we welcome artists of all styles, media and levels of ability - if you're traditional, you're in!

How to Join

:bulletred: Q: How do I join the club?
:pointr: A: Just watch the club - it's that simple!

You can send a join note if you like, but as long as you have traditional art or artisan crafts in your gallery, it's not necessary - you'll be added automatically, as long as you've watched the club. :) Please note that watching the club is a requirement of membership - it means you can be made aware of club happenings, rules and submissions.

If you don't have traditional art in your gallery but you'd still like to join, please watch us and send a note with the subject "join" and you'll be added.

Please don't submit anything until you receive a "welcome" note and a watch from the club, and please be patient - you will usually receive a comment or welcome note within a week!

We'd be most grateful if you'd display our icon in your journal or our link in your comment signature - it's not a requirement, but it's a great way to spread the word about us! :D Here's how:

:bulletred: Q: How do I add the icon to my journal?
:pointr: A: Just type : icontraditional-artists : (with the colons but without the spaces) into your journal.

:bulletred: Q: How do I add the link to my signature?
:pointr: A: Go to Account Tools :pointr: Edit Settings :pointr: Identity, and type : devtraditional-artists : (with the colons but without the spaces) into the box under "Comment Signature".

How to Submit

We operate a collections system for submissions - all you need to do is send us the thumb OR link to your submissions in a note with the subject "submission" or "submit" - it's that simple!

:bulletred: Q: How do I send you the link to my submissions?
:pointr: A: Just copy and paste the URL into a note and send it to the club. (like this: [link] not like this: [link])

:new: Starting in October, the new submission limit is 2 submissions per calendar month.

If you're new to collections, here's how it works:
Submissions will be added to the club collections folder for the current month. You'll get a message when this happens, but you don't need to thank us for it! ;) Screenshots of the thumbs will be taken as they appear in the collections folder, and submitted to the club gallery. A list will appear in the description with links to individual deviations, along with a link to the current monthly folder, so it's easy to find the pictures you like! And all the :+fav:s go to your original deviations :D

Submission Rules

As this is a traditional art club, we will only accept deviations that have been submitted to traditional art categories, e.g. paintings or drawings. We will also accept artisan crafts and mixed media - anything that's handmade. Minor digital alterations that improve the appearance of the image, such as removing blemishes etc., are permitted, but no major digital manipulation (e.g. added content, colour changes, text, photoshopped backgrounds) will be accepted.

The one exception to this rule is comics, which can have digitally added text as long as the artwork is all traditional. We also allow watermarked work - anything that helps to stop art theft is fine by us! :police:

And while we're on art theft: anyone found submitting other artists' work as their own will be banned and reported to dA.

In keeping with dA's policy, no pornographic or obscene images will be accepted, though mature subjects may be submitted to the gallery.

Please Note...

Because this club now has around 1500 members, we really need to crack down on people sending in notes with the wrong subjects. Any notes sent into the club with (no subject) will be DELETED - it seems harsh, but if you'd spent as much of your time as I have sorting through notes and marking them for the attention of the right admins, you'd feel the same way!

:bulletred: Please use these subjects for your notes to the club: :bulletred:

:pointr: Submissions: "Submit" or "Submission" (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - PEOPLE ARE STILL SENDING IN NOTES WITH THE WRONG SUBJECTS AND OUR SUBMISSIONS ADMIN IS GETTING FED UP!)

:pointr: Membership: "Join", "Membership", "Leaving" :noes:

:pointr: Contests & Features: "*THEME* Contest Entry", "*THEME* Contest Voting", "Pageviews Feature", "Treasure Hunt Feature" etc. (depending on the contest or game running)

:pointr: Questions: "Question", "Query", "Complaint", "Suggestion"

:pointr: Affiliates: "Affiliate", "Affiliate Contest Feature" etc. (Once you're on our affiliates list, we know who you are but it does help to give us a relevant subject!)

If your note doesn't have one of these subjects, it might be misdirected to the wrong admin, or deleted. You have been warned! :mwahaha:

Question about drawing: are we permitted to submit pencil drawings cleaned up with PhotoShop or Corel? I'm talking the stupid scanner "dots" and "scanner burn". Nothing else, no erasing boo-boos or adding onto the artwork itself or editing. Works look terrible when you have a bad scanner. :(
Please LMK. I'd like to join. (Also does pen and ink count for this club? I mean pen holder with nibs, croquils and Higgins ink. The real thing.)

Yep, minor digital tidying up is accepted...mainly cos I do it too, and I know how bad drawings can look without it!

And yes, pen and ink counts :D

Thank you thank you thank you etc. I didn't want to break any rules. If scanners would stop "adding" sh*t to the art they scan, we could remain "purists".

What about mixed media? I made a few collages, for which I drew all the pieces and used different media throughout
Still count?
