About Traditional-Artists

Hi Lovely Members! It is delightful that we had a decreasing number of declined works in the last few months. If it goes on like this, we would surely extend the monthly submission period in the near future. So you could have more chances in a month to submit and enjoy more works. For new members, please note that digital alteration/enhancement is allowed with limitations in this group. We ask that you read the submission guidelines carefully before you submit to our gallery. Thank you!

Submission Rules

:new:
:bulletgreen: You must be a Member to submit to the Gallery.
:bulletgreen: You must not submit work that is not created by your own hand or you'll be banned.
:bulletgreen: You have 2 submission slots per month.
:bulletgreen: Submissions will be open between the 21st and the 30th of every month, except in February will be on the 21st until the 28th.
:bulletgreen: Your submission will be approved as long as it meets all of the following requirements:

:megaphone: What is accepted into the Traditional-Artists Gallery?

:bulletorange: Art submitted to our Gallery must be submitted to traditional art categories, e.g. paintings or drawings. We will also accept artisan crafts and mixed media - anything that's handmade.  Important Because of the sheer volume of work submitted to T-A on a weekly basis, the standard of artwork accepted into the gallery is held in a higher scrutiny than most clubs. We shall never, ever discriminate due to the level of skill of the artist - however, we will only take work that is presented only in the best possible way.

:bulletorange: All submissions must be finished pieces. If you consider your art completed ones, NEVER entitle your works Sketches, WIPs, Studies, or the like that implies unfinished/incomplete works.

:bulletorange: Tutorials must be submitted to Group Favorites -> Members' Tutorials. This will not affect your monthly submission slots. :)

:police: Not accepted:
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Work submitted to the wrong folder.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Wrongly oriented or improperly cropped image. See below for more details.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Image categorized under Photography, Literature or Digital Art.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Commercial work – We do not accept work displayed for commercial gain. More specifically:  work with a commercial remark in the title and displayed on the image itself is unacceptable. Buying and Selling terms can be added in artist’s comment.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Un-finished works; WIPs, Doodles, Sketches, Poor linework etc.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Pornographic, Racist, Hate or Fetish work.  See Mature Content below for more details.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Work that has not been created by your own hand or submission from the third person.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Work presented on lined or squared paper when it is not aesthetic to your artwork.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Poorly photographed or scanned work:  tints added by poor camera light; blurred photos; scanner burn; barely visible photos etc.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Cropped, zoomed image without a picture of the whole work displaying as the main part.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: 2D art with distorted perspective and 3D drawing/painting without top view.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: A series of art pieces put together in one deviation. See Multi-panel artwork below.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Photographs showcasing something that distracts the viewers from the artwork.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Plain text art.

:bulletorange: Cropping
Please make sure your submission is showing only your artwork, we will NOT accept any submissions where:
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Paper edges or binding rings are in view
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Drawing materials are in view
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Drawing surfaces and surroundings are in view, except Site Specific Art
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Reference images are in view
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Picture frames are in view, except those made by the artists
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: Artists who are not the art object themselves are in view

:bulletorange: Digital editing
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: (1) You may only use a digital program to correct brightness and contrast to reinstate the original values if your camera/scanner has changed them.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: (2) NO images with digitally clear/transparent backgrounds or deleted paper texture/noise.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: (3) You may add a simple solid-color digital border/frame.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: (4) You may add a watermark, artwork title, artist's logo, name, and website.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: (5) NO digital enhancements will be accepted, no filters, no colours or digital textures and no digital brushes or text may be included in your traditional art submission.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: (6) You may add digital text only in a comic strip or storyboard that is 100% traditional art.

:bulletorange: To further clarify on digital textures:
Water Mage- SCD by JLDragonfly <- NOT ACCEPTABLE
water mage- not texture by JLDragonfly <- ACCEPTABLE

:bulletorange: Clear backgrounds and digital transparency:
Bayle-clear-bg by rinaswan <- NOT ACCEPTABLE
Bayle-white-bg by rinaswan <- NOT ACCEPTABLE

:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: How to scan large format art mauthbaux.deviantart.com/art/H…
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: How to clean your lineart lalunatique.deviantart.com/art…

:bulletorange: Mature content is allowed as long as it is presented in a tasteful manner and has the appropriate mature filter applied if necessary.  The submission administrators will assess on an individual basis.

:bulletorange: Multi-panel artwork:
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: (1) Must be a polyptych (diptych, triptych, tetraptych, etc.).
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: (2) All images in each piece must follow all group submission rules.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: (3) Before-and-after work and step-by-step art will not be accepted.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: (4) Digital work to combine artworks must be limited and will be at the discretion of the admins as to whether it is acceptable or not.
:bulletwhite::bulletwhite: (5) Each case will be assessed on an individual basis.

:bulletorange: Art Theft
Anyone found submitting other artists' work as their own will be banned and reported to dA and the original artist will be contacted and informed.

:bulletorange: Fake Art
T-A will not tolerate work submitted that has clearly been manipulated and being passed off as traditional artwork.  If you submit fake art (defined below) we will ban you from the group and report you to dA as well as making all of our affiliates aware of the situation.
:bulletwhite: Photoshopped images being passed off as traditional work
:bulletwhite: Printed images with obvious scribbles on top being passed off as a traditional drawing.
:bulletwhite: Photoshopped drawings – your own or otherwise

:bulletorange: Make it easier for us to get your work in the gallery more quickly, tell us what materials you have used!!

:bulletorange: Admin staff looks closely at each and every deviation submitted before accepting to the gallery. If your submission does not follow all our group rule, it will be rejected from the gallery, and you will be notified about why. Denial by group admins is final. If you have any questions, please feel free to note a Sub Admin!

Please Note...

We realize that with such a large Group, there are going to be bugs that pop-up from time to time, so it is essential that you please use the relevant subjects on notes sent to the group. If you cannot join or submit, or have any questions, affiliate-related or other notes, you need to have appropriate subjects on your notes to get quick responses and avoid them getting mislaid!

Umm... Let's say there's an awesome idea for a drawing, I ask that person if I can Reproduce it (draw exactly the same thing but completely from scratch and with my own style) and then post it crediting the original drawing on the description....
That's the only thing I could come up with xD

I always put a link to the persons page and their original work if I do fanwork. Would it be okay to submit fanwork?

May I have a little question? Probably I know the answer, but I'd like to be sure - if I have a deviation submited to my gallery in march, I submit it here in the current month folder anyway? (:

"Commercial work – We do not accept work displayed for commercial gain"

Question: Many artists, myself included, have print accounts. Am I correct in assuming that's not the same as 'commercial'?

Certainly no problem here. :)
We just want to prevent people writing across their canvas with big red letters, because this group is about the art, not the money. We think that if you like a work so much you want to purchase it, you should go as far as to read the artist's comments (where such details are allowed) - or click a link to the Prints.

To be honest I don't understand why some words are acceptable in deviations titles while others aren't, but rules are rules...

Oh, and while at it, could we add "transparent backgrounds" to the black list, too? Clearing backgrounds digitally includes transparent backgrounds as well, but it never hurts to specify when it comes to rules.

I've been gone for quite a while...I recently came back on and I it's been over a year since I've submitted anything...everything is so confusing. I read through and saw about adjustments...is my art considered to be in this category? I have a shitty scanner and my camera without flash (otherwise it gives glare) leaves my work colored depending what lighting I have in my apartment...I'm confused. Could you tell me if I should even bother trying to submit something? I hate to ask cause I know you guys are busy, but I would appreciate the tip.

it really depends on the level of the discoloration- if its an obvious thing, it might not make it, but by the sound of it, yr pieces are going to vary from day to day.

I have some that aren't to bad, but yeah it tends to vary. =/ The hazards of not having a good scanner. =/

I have a traditional work that has a clearbackground because i thought the old grainy white texture was a nuinsance and that it looked better without it. Is that alright or is it still considered digitally manipulated? Do i need to put the white background back in to make it acceptable?

well, i can tell you right now that the fact that you have it listed as 'digital art' in the category is a real quick decline. :hmm: you also refer to it as a sketch, and we only take finished works with very few exceptions. You'd have to address both of those two issues before we'd even debate the clear background.

let me know if you have any more questions.
